What's Next for HEROIC Dota 2?

published 23 September 2024

Now that we’ve all caught our breath after The International, we are excited to introduce our new carry for the upcoming season!

Bienvenido Parker!

Parker has just the experience that we were looking for in our new fifth, having already played for many of the biggest organisations in South American Dota, and he’s no stranger to Tier 1 competition. We’re looking forward to assimilating him into our lineup over the coming weeks, with our first official taking place on September 28th in the DreamLeague Season 24 Closed Qualifier.

"
Parker has been grinding really hard lately and he has the potential to be the best carry in SA. We felt like we needed some extra talent and also a more decisive and explosive player to be able to face the best teams in the world. SA has been historically known for bringing really talented individuals to the scene and the guy is the manifestation of talent. We believe that this is his moment to shine

HEROIC’s roster for the upcoming season is now:

🇵🇪 Parker - David Nicho Flores

🇧🇷 4nalog - João Giannini

🇧🇪 Davai Lama - Cedric Deckmyn

🇵🇪 Scofield - Elvis Joel De la Cruz Peña

🇧🇷 KJ - Matheus Diniz

We would also like to thank Héctor ‘K1’ Antonio Rodríguez Asto, the god of farming, for all of the work he put in last season and for helping get us to our first International. We wish him all the best going forward [and hope he enjoys a well-earned break].

What a Season…

But captain, it’s only September!

January 2024 marked the start of a new, major venture for us at HEROIC with our expansion into Dota 2. Branching out into a new game in a completely different timezone, with a team covering three separate nationalities definitely brought about some logistical challenges, but our project didn’t take long to become a regional success story. The squad quickly made a name for themselves in reaching all but one Tier 1 events this year and cemented themselves as the indisputable champions of the qualifiers, and the Kings of South America.

Playing eight qualifiers and eight international events is not a bad haul for our first nine months as a team. To break that down a little further, outside of the first week of our team being announced, we won every single qualifier and haven’t lost to a regional rival since.

The International 2024

‘There was an International this year?’ you might be asking, and yes, we promise you there was! Valve might have forgotten to tell anyone but we even made some banger content for the occasion! And our Dota squad were able to earn their spot in Copenhagen with ease. They breezed through the Closed Qualifier without dropping a map and we had achieved one of our big goals from the start of the year.

Sadly, the ability to close our matches didn’t make it to the boarding gate in time as we proceeded to make life very difficult for ourselves. A tumultuous Group Stage and a nerve-wracking lower-bracket run in the Playoffs had us finish one step away from playing in the Royal Arena.

"
We will build upon the experience we've gathered this first season as a team. Learn how to do things sustainably, build more consistency and peak for the right tournaments. We will be a well rounded lineup with a clear and aggressive identity. This is the season we'll become the best SA team to ever do it.

Behind the Scenes

After putting pen to paper and onboarding our team towards the end of 2023, our players dropped everything and headed to Poland at the height of Winter, a concept so foreign to some of our players that they expected to see penguins on their way to the bootcamp! The ‘holiday season’ is not a concept our players are familiar with as they knuckled down in Katowice for the whole Christmas period getting ready for their debut, and this trend of giving everything to the team continued throughout the entire nine month period of their tenure, taking barely more than a week off in total.

Working with our Dota team on the ground has always been a pleasure too. You could count on the boys to always stay friendly and humble, and whilst trying to get esports personalities in front of a camera for content and media days can often be like herding cats, we have never seen a group more enthusiastic to strut their stuff for our new merch launch than this lot towards the start of the year. And speaking of getting on camera, Davai Lama was born to be in highlight reels, with his post-qualifier win balcony cannonball attracting so much attention that ESL offered us a trophy lift in an Olympic swimming pool had we managed to win in Birmingham.

We’re looking forward to plenty more things to celebrate as the new season already gets into full-swing.
